Why Elephant Leather?

Elephant leather is prized for its exceptional durability and distinctive natural grain, often compared to aged stone or weathered earth. The surface tells a story—natural creases, wrinkles, and texture that cannot be replicated or stamped.

Key Characteristics

  • Extremely durable and abrasion-resistant
  • Deep, natural grain with bold texture
  • Naturally flexible despite its toughness
  • Ages exceptionally well with wear
  • Ideal for everyday-use items

Elephant leather is chosen by those who value function just as much as appearance.

Texture & Grain

Unlike reptile leathers, elephant leather does not rely on scales for visual impact. Instead, its character comes from natural wrinkles and grain patterns formed over time. No two hides are ever alike, and variation is not only expected—it’s celebrated.

The grain remains consistent across the hide but will vary in depth and pattern, giving each finished piece its own identity.

Colour Availability (In-House Only)

For Elephant leather, the colours we have in-house are the only colours available. We do not special-order elephant leather in specific colours.

Because Elephant leather is sourced in limited quantities and regulated under strict guidelines, colour availability depends entirely on current inventory. These colours are offered for custom builds while inventory lasts.

As a natural material, tone and shading may vary slightly from hide to hide. Grain depth, hide density, and finish all influence how colour presents in the final piece. Elephant leather typically maintains a more muted, earthy appearance rather than high-gloss or high-contrast colour.

Color Pricing, Hide Size & Hide Grade

Pricing for Elephant leather builds is influenced by hide size and hide grade, rather than color selection.

Larger projects or builds requiring uninterrupted sections of leather may require larger or more select portions of a hide, which can affect pricing. Hide grade reflects overall leather quality, including grain consistency, structural integrity, and minimal excessive natural damage.

Because Elephant leather is inherently rugged and naturally marked, higher-grade hides provide cleaner visual balance while still retaining authentic texture.

All pricing considerations are confirmed with you before any leather is cut, ensuring transparency and proper hide selection for your build.

Elephant leather is among the most heavily regulated exotic materials in the world.

  • Strictly governed by CITES
  • Sourced only from legal, ethical, and fully documented channels
  • Export outside of Canada is often prohibited
  • Ownership or transfer documentation may be required
  • Availability is extremely limited

Elephant leather products are frequently restricted to domestic (Canada-only) sales.
